About
Soft Side Workshop is the work of fibre artist, Sarah Savoy, who creates original abstract wall hangings and small area rugs out of her home studio in East Vancouver. Using various rug tufting guns (both electric and hand-powered) and working with natural fibres such as wool, cotton and linen, Sarah creates compositions that are richly hued and layered, often evoking elements of the natural world and the landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. Sarah holds a degree in applied design, which contributes to her sense of colour, form, and aesthetic balance. She describes herself as “obsessed with colour and texture” and creates art that is inherently tactile, inviting the viewer to experience it through touch. Her rugs bridge a gap between art and function, and she considers each piece an exploration in the relationship between colours, their values and the intrinsic texture of different fibres.
